Forgiveness Shall Change the World (Gospel of Luke)

June 21st, 2015

By Keas Keasler

Throughout his ministry, Jesus repeatedly called the Jewish people to turn away from violence and become citizens of the peaceable kingdom. When they rejected him in favor of Barabbas, Jesus mourned because he knew that they had chosen the way of violence, which would ultimately lead to the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans in 70 A.D. In this sermon, Keas talks about how we are daily faced with the same choice that the Jewish people had to make — whether to take revenge or reconcile, whether to hate or forgive. With his last agonizing breaths, Jesus asked God to forgive those who were killing him. He loved like a rose – offering his fragrance to all, even to those who crushed him. And as we surrender to the Holy Spirit, we too can choose the way of reconciliation and love like a rose. (Luke 23:26-34)
